And the winner is...
...to be revealed at the end of this post.
Meanwhile, did you ever lose a contact lens while in the water and then find it?
I bet not. I did.
How is it possible, you ask, to find a contact lens in the ocean? Simple. When I came home to put in a new lens, I found the other one stuck to my face.
And that is the most interesting thing about today's surf session. It sucked. The waves were heavy closeouts. My first wave, on which I bombed, knocked my lens out. I wasn't even sure whether to go back in but I couldn't give up so easily. I seriously considered it, however, because no one was doing very well today. I only saw two good rides. Everyone else was just getting closed out and falling down.
I did manage to pop up three times. That's the good part. But no ride at all unless you count the one time I stayed up for a full two seconds.
As I was getting in someone said to me, Have fun. Fun? Huh? Fun had nothing to do with today. If you read this whole blog you will probably find that fun is mentioned slightly less than half the time. The rest, well, hopefully it's learning, but a lot of it is---honestly---just wasting time.
Like today. I could have gone in after the first wave. I could have looked at it as saving time for more productive pursuits. And that would have been perfectly reasonable. How come I never do that? Sheer cussed stubbornness? I mean, what is to be gained by a day like today? That is a tough question to answer. It's only nine p.m. and I feel like going to bed already, that's how exhausted I am from wiping out in cold water.
Drumroll please! The answer is...
Colorado.
That's where I'm going skiing this year. I considered other places, but it's hard to beat Colorado, especially this season. California and Canada will have to wait. Telluride. I've never been, but have always wanted to go because I've heard such good things about it. I hope it delivers.
So you guys can expect great waves when I'm gone, but it won't be right away.
