Hilarious

I have a confession to make; sometimes, if I surf really crappily, I don't write about it. So now I can tell you that on Martin Luther King Day, I totally crapped out and couldn't even catch a wave. I blame the waves for being too fast and steep, even though they weren't big.

But other people were catching and riding waves.

However, today, my first time out since then, I had a lovely time. It was fairly warm---35 degrees!---and small, and at least two rides were just perfect. I got up and rode them as far as they would go. OK, the next thing is figuring out how to turn. No, the next thing is getting more rides like that. Cause there are still plenty of times I blow takeoffs or fall.

I am going to link to some more of your websites once I figure out how---I've forgotten. But in the meantime, speaking of crap surfing, I have to share something that had me cracking up, at a time in my life when I thought I'd forgotten how to laugh. Is it just me, or is this site a work of freakin' comedic genius?

(Sorry, can't figure out how to make it linkable.)

Though I am a windsurfer and not a surfer (yes I know you surfers hate our guts!) the turning technique is pretty much the same regarding pressure on the rails. BUT one of the most important things about any turns or manouvres is the head. Wherever the head goes and is looking the body follows (and board!).Its a natural flowing movement that you have to look wherever you want to go and the rest will follow.
Is that helpful or am I going to get a hail of abuse from surfers that dont agree??

I've heard this too. But it's more than that. You gotta do something with your toes, or your heels, or your foot or something. I think.

Yes, you put pressure on your toes which then puts pressure on the rail and that causes the board to turn. Vice versa with the heels - by putting pressure on the heals and adjusting your weight you then put pressure on the back rail which makes the board turn in that direction. Whilst you do this you are shifting your weight continuously. The more pressure you put the harder you carve.........and look where you're going. Your body has to feel the carve and move with it. When you are surfing in a straight line just try kind of zig zagging in slowly to get the feel of it first.
